THE COWS ARE BACK
For more than thirty years, cows have been part of my life and my painting.

When I moved to Bavaria with my family, I found my studio in a small village — between two cowsheds. The cows were part of my everyday life: their calmness, their presence, their naturalness. I did not have to look for a subject. It was already there.

At some point, however, that sense of familiarity became something else. The cow turned into a trend, a decorative motif, available everywhere. In this flood of images, I lost my own connection to a subject that had been so familiar to me for decades. I took a step back. For a while, the cows disappeared from my painting, while other groups of works moved into the foreground.

Yet after this comparatively short time, I realized that something was missing. The cows are part of my story. But they do not have to remain the same.

Today, they return in a new context. The idea of kintsugi accompanies this return: not back to the original state, but onward — with everything that lies in between. The gold connects the past with the present and allows something familiar to emerge anew.

Not to return to what once was, but to rediscover what has always belonged to you.

The cows are back.
