Brief Biography & Artistic Journey

Born in 1961 in Hinterglemm, Austria

Self-taught painter since 2008

Marianne Hirschbichler is an Austrian artist from Hinterglemm. She lives on a mountain farm and has been deeply connected to hospitality and rural life since her youth. As a self-taught painter, the act of painting allows her to enter another state of being — intuitive, emotional and deeply personal.

Her works are shaped by strong human emotions and by the realities of everyday life. Living on a mountain farm has given nature and sustainability a central role in her artistic thinking. At the same time, her paintings often address interpersonal tensions and existential themes such as silence, helplessness, loneliness, death, failure and the fragile search for connection.

Hirschbichler works in an abstract and process-oriented manner. At the centre of her paintings are human states of being: communication and silence, closeness and distance, connection and separation. She is particularly interested in what cannot be clearly expressed in words — emotional in-between spaces, ruptures, inner tensions and unspoken experiences.

Her autodidactic approach is an essential part of her artistic freedom. Without formal restrictions, she has developed a visual language shaped by intuition, material experience and inner perception. The conscious acceptance of the unpredictable plays a key role in her creative process.

Our platform provides carefully curated access to artworks selected by art experts, guaranteeing a selection of the highest quality.

Our Mission and Actions

At THE ART HUB, our mission is initially focused on addressing a profound imbalance within the art world, specifically catering to women artists. In the current landscape, a mere 5% to 15% of artworks traded at auctions are created by women, starkly contrasted by the overwhelming 85% to 95% of works by male artists. This disparity is not only confined to auctions but is also prevalent in exhibitions, where male-created art significantly overshadows that of their female counterparts.

By concentrating our efforts on female artists, THE ART HUB aims to counteract this imbalance and champion women within the art community. This initiative is designed to amplify the visibility of women artists, making their creations more accessible to a wider audience, and ultimately striving for a more balanced representation of genders within art auctions and exhibitions. By prioritizing women in art, our platform boldly advocates for equality and diversity within the art sector, signaling a commitment to reshaping and enriching the cultural landscape.

Curatorial Voices

“With this exhibition, Marianne Hirschbichler has begun what I hope will be a long and successful path throughout the art world. It is an honour and privilege for me to have her first exhibition in the Blackwall Gallery.”

Ed Mundy, Blackwall Gallery

“Marianne Hirschbichler is a self-taught artist who critically and passionately addresses some of humanity’s great themes — interpersonal communication, the environment and visions of the future. With an independent artistic signature, the passionate painter creates essential, symbolic and meditative images in a reduced, inward-looking visual language. Art that comes from the heart and from the soul.”

Elisabeth Nowak-Thaller, LENTOS Kunstmuseum Linz
