Of Distant Spaces

In “Of Distant Spaces”, Marianne Hirschbichler examines figures who reflect upon themselves and continuously question their own existence. The work deals with the crossing of boundaries in a metaphorical sense: human beings who want to overcome limits, break through walls, rise above barriers or tear them down.

These figures dare to move towards new, visionary and often unknown spheres. Yet the question remains: what lies beyond the broken walls? Perhaps a dangerous new beginning, but also new perspectives and new possibilities of life.

Some figures fail in their attempt to transcend boundaries; others rise again and again, continuing their search. Others have already overcome the illusion of departure, or take cautious steps into newly gained inner and outer spaces. The work speaks of transformation, risk, resilience and the human desire to move beyond confinement.
