Animus, according to Carl Gustav Jung, is a male archetype that exists in the unconscious of the woman – a figure of intellect, of word, and of action. The circular form – archetypal, primordial – stands for infinity, inner cycles, and transcendence. Yet here the circle is neither smooth nor perfect. The concrete, cold and flawed, was deliberately cracked, scratched, burned. Like a soul that has borne the weight of matter and yet preserved its essence.
The surface is covered with layers of fast-drying acrylic paint – like the decisions of the mind – and oil paint – deep and slow like emotions. In this depiction, Animus is less a male figure than an inner force demanding recognition and integration. It captures the moment when the woman confronts her inner “him” – not to submit, but to gain access to his qualities: logic, initiative, courage, and language.
It is a portrait of the inner dialogue – the one never spoken aloud, yet whose echo remains forever.
