Short Bio & Artistic Background

Petra Holzknecht is an Italian contemporary artist born in 1975 in Merano, South Tyrol. Raised in Moos in Passeier and currently based in Kuens near Merano, she has been working as an independent artist since 1997. After completing her commercial education in Merano and later obtaining her diploma in social studies, she discovered her passion for painting through artistic training and experimental practice.

Since 2008, Petra Holzknecht has exhibited regularly in Italy and abroad. In 2011, she opened her own studio in the historic center of Merano. Her artistic practice is centered around her series Coloured Lines, developed through an intuitive yet highly precise visual language.

Working on canvas, wood and acrylic glass, she combines reduced linear structures with layered color fields, rhythm and balance. Her works explore the dynamic relationship between control and freedom, stillness and movement, creating paintings of quiet intensity and contemporary clarity.

Our platform provides carefully curated access to artworks selected by art experts, guaranteeing a selection of the highest quality.

Our Mission and Actions

At THE ART HUB, our mission is initially focused on addressing a profound imbalance within the art world, specifically catering to women artists. In the current landscape, a mere 5% to 15% of artworks traded at auctions are created by women, starkly contrasted by the overwhelming 85% to 95% of works by male artists. This disparity is not only confined to auctions but is also prevalent in exhibitions, where male-created art significantly overshadows that of their female counterparts.

By concentrating our efforts on female artists, THE ART HUB aims to counteract this imbalance and champion women within the art community. This initiative is designed to amplify the visibility of women artists, making their creations more accessible to a wider audience, and ultimately striving for a more balanced representation of genders within art auctions and exhibitions. By prioritizing women in art, our platform boldly advocates for equality and diversity within the art sector, signaling a commitment to reshaping and enriching the cultural landscape.

Artistic Statement

My artistic practice is rooted in the relationship between line, color and movement. Through my series Coloured Lines, I create works that combine intuitive expression with structural precision.

Reduced linear forms interact with layered color fields, creating a dynamic tension between control and freedom, rhythm and stillness. The colors move through contrasts and harmonies — sometimes light, sometimes dark — generating an illusion of speed and emotional movement within the viewer’s perception.

In my work, color interrupts the static nature of the line, creating a dialogue between form and light. Inspired by the overwhelming presence of visual stimuli in contemporary life, I explore how perception filters what is truly essential.

Working on canvas, wood and acrylic glass, I combine painting with experimental techniques to create compositions of quiet intensity, emotional balance and a distinct visual identity. My goal is to develop artworks that resonate beyond aesthetics — creating spaces of reflection, inner movement and lasting presence.
