Brief Biography
Eva-Maria Biribauer (b. 1980, Eisenstadt, Austria) discovered her passion for visual expression as a child, dreaming of becoming either a painter or designer. At seventeen she left home to study Fashion Design and Costume at ESMOD Munich (with a stint in Tokyo), completing a diploma project on Orwell’s 1984. She then worked in costume design at Berlin’s Schaubühne and Vienna’s Burgtheater before earning an MA in Film & TV Production at Danube University Krems (2008 thesis: “China – The New Goldmine of the Film Industry?”). A junior producer role in Cologne led her to UCLA’s Professional Program in Motion Picture Producing (2009), after which she immersed herself in Los Angeles’s indie‐film world while developing her signature multimedia art series Swallow my Ballgag. Returning to Austria, she combined costume, film and painting, focusing entirely on her art practice from 2011 onward. She has exhibited in Vienna, Los Angeles, Rotterdam and Venice, and in 2015 founded Inventive Spirits e.U., launching a Burgenland costume-rental studio and teaching art and communication.

Our Mission and Actions
At THE ART HUB, our mission is initially focused on addressing a profound imbalance within the art world, specifically catering to women artists. In the current landscape, a mere 5% to 15% of artworks traded at auctions are created by women, starkly contrasted by the overwhelming 85% to 95% of works by male artists. This disparity is not only confined to auctions but is also prevalent in exhibitions, where male-created art significantly overshadows that of their female counterparts.
By concentrating our efforts on female artists, THE ART HUB aims to counteract this imbalance and champion women within the art community. This initiative is designed to amplify the visibility of women artists, making their creations more accessible to a wider audience, and ultimately striving for a more balanced representation of genders within art auctions and exhibitions. By prioritizing women in art, our platform boldly advocates for equality and diversity within the art sector, signaling a commitment to reshaping and enriching the cultural landscape.

Artist Profile
Eva-Maria Biribauer is a multimedia artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, costume, film and installation. Rooted in her early training in fashion and costume design, her work explores utopian and dystopian narratives, often merging text, performance and visual imagery. Since 2011 she has focused on vivid, story-driven series—most notably Swallow my Ballgag and the Bálint projects—that interrogate power, identity and cultural memory. Her installations employ diverse materials (wood, concrete, glass, metals, acrylic) and advanced lighting techniques to create immersive, ever-evolving environments. Biribauer lives and works in Burgenland, Austria, where she also runs Inventive Spirits e.U., a costume-rental and arts-education studio.
This is Eva-Maria, who loves life, travels the world in search of gods and wonder, cherishes freedom above all, and never tires of dancing—even when her shoes have holes.
