Artist Statement | Mariya Naydis

Mariya Naydis explores the realistic details of her dreams, emotions, and visions through her paintings. She expertly uses expressive colors and lines to abstractly depict a wide spectrum of human emotions such as sorrow, anger, love, fear, and longing, alongside her fascination with nature, animals, and plants. Born on June 12, 1983, in Dnepropetrovsk, she grew up in the former Soviet Union. Her childhood was marked by modest means, often playing in the streets where she found colorful shards of glass. Mariya was captivated by these and effortlessly arranged them into vibrant mosaic artworks. Inspired by her grandmother, an actress, and the stories of past times narrated by her mother, Mariya developed a growing interest in portraying life experience and art as a unified concept.

Since moving to Munich in 1998, Mariya's journey in art has been prolific. After graduating from Asam Gymnasium in 2005, she studied painting and graphics at Michael Tschernjaveski’s art school in Munich from 1999 to 2007. Her early works were introduced to the public through group exhibitions in January and February 2005, followed by her first solo exhibition at Sendlinger Kulturschmiede, Munich. She participated in numerous exhibitions thereafter, including the Munich Artists' Cooperative's annual "Alps" exhibition in 2008, and won first prize at the "Young Gasteig" competition in Munich in December 2012. In 2013, she held a solo exhibition at the Kulturpavillon am Romanplatz in Munich and participated in the VBK annual exhibition at the Art Pavilion in the Old Botanical Garden.

Mariya's success is evident. She started 2014 with an exhibition on the theme "When Mr. Keuner Turned Around… Enemies / Arsonists" at the Kunstpavillon, Munich. Her artworks have been consistently showcased, including at the Museum of Egyptian Art in Munich by the Munich Artists' Cooperative and internationally, such as at the "Parallax Art Fair" in London (February 27 to March 01, 2015). Subsequent exhibitions include the "Elements" group show in June 2015 at Gabriel Fine Art, London, and the solo "Heartbeat" exhibition in July 2015. Her continued participation in the annual exhibitions at the Museum of Egyptian Art (2017, 2018, 2019) and the "STROKE ART FAIR" at Marienplatz in May 2019 highlight her ongoing relevance and demand in the art world.

Mariya's works were featured in a solo exhibition at DeSena & DeSena Galleries in Westerham in February 2020, followed by the Munich Artists' Cooperative virtual annual exhibition in June 2021. In April 2023, her works were part of a group exhibition with the Munich Artists' Cooperative at the Künstlerhaus in Munich. In June 2024, she is scheduled for a solo exhibition at Gallery Baumgartl in Munich (June 20-26), and in July-August 2024, she will participate in a group exhibition with the PopUp Gallery Baodt in Salzburg.

Our Mission and Actions

At THE ART HUB, our mission is initially focused on addressing a profound imbalance within the art world, specifically catering to women artists. In the current landscape, a mere 5% to 15% of artworks traded at auctions are created by women, starkly contrasted by the overwhelming 85% to 95% of works by male artists. This disparity is not only confined to auctions but is also prevalent in exhibitions, where male-created art significantly overshadows that of their female counterparts.

By concentrating our efforts on female artists, THE ART HUB aims to counteract this imbalance and champion women within the art community. This initiative is designed to amplify the visibility of women artists, making their creations more accessible to a wider audience, and ultimately striving for a more balanced representation of genders within art auctions and exhibitions. By prioritizing women in art, our platform boldly advocates for equality and diversity within the art sector, signaling a commitment to reshaping and enriching the cultural landscape.

Personal Statement | Mariya Naydis

In my paintings, I describe dreams, the movement of the soul, and the visions that visit me. I am inspired by a longing for a fairy tale, a yearning for absolute beauty, and for absolute love. I share my perception of special beings and their relationship to the outside world, expressing this with color and lines in a surreal style.

I was born on June 12, 1983, in Ukraine. As a child, I did not have many toys and was often drawn to play in the streets, where I found materials like colored glass shards, twigs, pebbles, and colorful pieces of paper. I was captivated by the beauty of these items and easily incorporated them into a mosaic of picturesque paintings.

My grandmother was a theater actress. The stories and memories my mother shared about the old times associated with the theater sparked my interest in portraying life stories and fates.

Since 1998, I have lived in Munich and consider myself fortunate because God has given me the opportunity to paint and simultaneously immerse myself in a wonderful world.

With my paintings, I aim to convey to the viewer that we, as humans, and the world around us, are part of a mysterious play and something special, unfathomable. Thoughtful and profound contemplation of paintings connects us with the mystery and brings us joy.

As a child, I understood one thing: "No matter what happens next, no one will take away my opportunity to paint, I will always be in dialogue, I will always be in a dance with a partner."
