Brief Biography & Artistic Journey
Gerti Landwehr’s portraits, making the unsayable visible.
Between briefings and screens, Gerti Landwehr began her career as a graphic designer - precise, ambitious, and guided by a clear personal vision. At first, her ideas collided with the resistance of a stubborn superior; yet her designs convinced clients and colleagues so convincingly that perceptions of her talent began to shift. Words were never her territory; images were. At night, she visualized what could not be put into words - and let her work speak for itself.
From this experience emerged a distinct artistic stance: portraits as spaces of resonance for the unsayable. Gerti concentrates everything on the gaze - eyes that seek closeness rather than pose, that make silent signals visible and enable genuine encounter. When a work becomes too smooth, she deliberately paints over it - out of clarity, not doubt. This is how faces come into being that do not merely depict, but respond. “I paint gazes that speak back.”
Why does this matter? Because a society becomes impoverished when we no longer truly look at one another. Amid speed, sensory overload, and rapid judgment, her painting recalls what it means to be human: to perceive, to respond, to allow oneself to be touched. Thus, graphic routine transforms into an independent artistic voice - and images become a conversation that leads us back to authentic connection.
Today, Gerti Landwehr lives and works as an independent artist in Austria. For several years, her works have been successfully presented in galleries, in solo exhibitions, and at art fairs in Austria and abroad - now also for the first time in an auction house. Sales and demand continue to develop positively; collectors in particular value the consistency of her portrait-based position. The response confirms that the imaginary possesses a real power - one that touches people and transforms encounters, beyond the sensory overload of everyday life.

Our Mission and Actions
At THE ART HUB, our mission is initially focused on addressing a profound imbalance within the art world, specifically catering to women artists. In the current landscape, a mere 5% to 15% of artworks traded at auctions are created by women, starkly contrasted by the overwhelming 85% to 95% of works by male artists. This disparity is not only confined to auctions but is also prevalent in exhibitions, where male-created art significantly overshadows that of their female counterparts.
By concentrating our efforts on female artists, THE ART HUB aims to counteract this imbalance and champion women within the art community. This initiative is designed to amplify the visibility of women artists, making their creations more accessible to a wider audience, and ultimately striving for a more balanced representation of genders within art auctions and exhibitions. By prioritizing women in art, our platform boldly advocates for equality and diversity within the art sector, signaling a commitment to reshaping and enriching the cultural landscape.

Artist Statement:
Ethics of the Gaze | Art as Resonance Between People
I paint portraits not as representations, but as spaces of resonance. At the center is the gaze - that quiet, nonverbal gesture through which relationships are shaped. A gaze can offer closeness or mark a boundary, open trust or signal restraint. My painting makes these subtle signals visible and invites viewers to read them more consciously - within the image as in life. In this way, art becomes a resonance between people once again.
Formally, my work moves between figuration and abstraction. Bold color combinations, decisive brushstrokes, and transparent layers create a vibrating field in which emotions appear as if in real time. In the friction between strength and delicacy, faces emerge that do not fix or judge, but invite response - dialogue rather than verdict.
My paintings are a counterproposal to the fleeting flood of images. They slow down the gaze and sharpen perception for nuance: a minimal tension of the eyelid, a tilt of the head, a glint of light in the eye. Such details are not decoration - they determine whether we open ourselves or keep our distance.
I understand painting as an ethics of the gaze. Each work is an invitation to see attentively and empathetically: to perceive boundaries, allow presence, and reflect on one’s own stance. When we relearn this wordless language, encounters change - privately and publicly alike. That is why I paint: to open spaces in which seeing becomes encounter, and our shared humanity gains tangible depth.
