Kinetic art is a form of expression in which movement is considered an integral aesthetic component of the art object. Even when the object appears to change because the viewer moves (see the artist Carlos Cruz-Diez and below the video of Uli Aschenborn's image of a woman) or even an illusion feigns movement (Youri Messen-Jaschin). For this reason, Op Art is considered by some viewers to be kinetic art.
In modernism, its beginnings can be found in the kinetic light and movement objects of Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray as well as in the constructivist machines of the artists Vladimir Tatlin,
Naum Gabo, Alexander Rodchenko and László Moholy-Nagy. Some artists, such as Alexander Calder and Jean Tinguely, also work with found materials and objects, thus continuing the concept of the objet trouvé. A continuation of kinetic art is cybernetic art, in which the work of art reacts to external influences, in particular also to manipulations by people.
