Artists have sought to visually represent spiritual concepts and experiences, using angels as symbols of divine presence, protection, and transcendence, exploring themes of faith, hope, and the supernatural. In these challenging times, the relevance of these themes persists. We find ourselves in battle-weary periods where the need for angelic guidance seems more pronounced than ever. By being quiet and attentive, one might feel their presence or witness the outcomes of their influence. These representations serve as mere placeholders, symbols, and reference points for an unseen phenomenon that has been sensed and revered since time immemorial. Angels in various forms and the mystical sensations surrounding them have recurred in my dreams throughout my life. They also manifest synchronistically in my waking life, capturing my attention and inspiring my work as a painter. My paintings are not mere studies in replicating forms; rather, they aim to communicate the spiritual emotions I associate with these beings, offering a poignant glimpse into my deep, personal vision. Utilizing oil paints and occasionally mixed media, I strive to capture the timeless allure of these figures in a profoundly personal manner. On each canvas, I recreate the flawless contours and folds of drapery, the serene facial expressions, and the delicate details of wings, poised as if ready to unfurl and take flight. The rich hues invite viewers to ponder their postures, expressions, and roles as messengers to our spirits. My goal is to elevate these cherished works from their traditional representations and reimagine them through a contemporary lens, highlighting their relevance in our everyday lives. In the current landscape, a mere 5% to 15% of artworks traded at auctions are created by women, starkly contrasted by the overwhelming 85% to 95% of works by male artists. This disparity is not only confined to auctions but is also prevalent in exhibitions, where male-created art significantly overshadows that of their female counterparts. By concentrating our efforts on female artists, THE ART HUB aims to counteract this imbalance and champion women within the art community. This initiative is designed to amplify the visibility of women artists, making their creations more accessible to a wider audience, and ultimately striving for a more balanced representation of genders within art auctions and exhibitions. By prioritizing women in art, our platform boldly advocates for equality and diversity within the art sector, signaling a commitment to reshaping and enriching the cultural landscape. Cheryl about Cheryl Kelley My passion for painting began in childhood. From the moment I could hold a crayon, I was obsessed with making art. At age 10, my parents engaged a private teacher for me, and I began oil painting. Like many artists, I struggled to focus in school unless it involved art. My focus and skill carried me to The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, where I studied fine arts and classical music. However, I always knew my future lay in visual arts. I pursued fine art studies at the University of Houston and embarked on my professional career shortly thereafter. Initially focused on abstract expressionism and primarily exhibiting in Houston, I later transitioned to showing my work in New York. Throughout the early 2000s, my exhibitions ranged from STUX gallery to Lyons Wier Gallery and, eventually, Bernarducci Meisel Gallery from 2010 to 2019. Currently, I am represented by Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts in New York and Scott Richards Contemporary Art in San Francisco. In 2004, my abstract expressionism evolved into photorealism as I began painting classic cars, a subject for which I became well-known. After Bernarducci Meisel closed, I broadened my focus to include figurative, landscape, animal, and abstract paintings, and I plan to explore the digital realm with NFTs. Though I no longer paint classic cars for gallery shows (continuing only on commission), I now offer both open edition and limited edition prints of these works to make them accessible to a wider audience. Having recently moved to Santa Fe, NM, I am continually inspired by the creative energy here. The influence of this magical place is still unfolding, and each new piece brings me closer to discovering my evolving artistic voice.
