Brief Biography & Artistic Journey

Merav Leibküchler is a multidisciplinary artist based in Berlin, Germany. She holds a Master's degree in Fine Arts from the Berlin University of Arts- UdK and has a background in performing arts from her studies at the Matte Asher School for Performing Arts at Kibbutz Gaaton in Israel. Her work encompasses a range of mediums including painting, drawing, Installation and performance.

Her pieces have been showcased in solo and group exhibitions at venues such as the König Galerie in Berlin, Salondergegenwart in Hamburg, and the Museum FLUXUS in Potsdam. In 2019, she received the Recognition Award from the Helmut- Thoma foundation and was nominated for the UdK President Preis.

During her studies, Leibküchler participated in an exchange program at the Faculdade de Belas Artes, Universidade de Lisboa in Lisbon, where she immersed herself in the local art scene and gained insights and inspiration for her future work. In 2014, she was also granted a scholarship by the International Summer Academy in Venice, Italy, where she studied under contemporary artists.

Leibküchler's art delves into thought-provoking themes, drawing inspiration from a variety of sources such as philosophy, science and metaphysics. Her pieces explore concepts such as the nature of existence, the relationship between time and space, and the nature of reality and perception. Her work creates an introspective experience, encouraging the viewer to reflect on the complexities of the world around them and their place within it.

Personal Statement

My art serves as a vessel to capture the complex connections between philosophical, scientific, and spiritual questions. The fusion of these disciplines inspires me to create works that go beyond my conventional understanding. It is a process that explores the inexplicable and the unfathomable.

My work spans various media such as paintings, drawings, installations, and performances. It consists of an abstract, imaginary reality, forming a visual language of shapes, lines, shadows, dimensionality, light, and movement, with an underlying system that remains unknown. This creates an alternative view that feels both ancient and futuristic, playing with the mystery of life while questioning the hidden.

Through my installations and performances, I merge classical art practices with new media techniques, connecting different artistic disciplines. Through live performances, sound, and video installations, I strive to create multidimensional experiences that transcend the boundaries of traditional visual representation. This fusion allows me to manifest the unfathomable and give shape to abstraction. I invite viewers to confront and question their perceptions of time and space as they encounter a tangible representation of the elusive void.

Our Mission and Actions

At THE ART HUB, our mission is initially focused on addressing a profound imbalance within the art world, specifically catering to women artists. In the current landscape, a mere 5% to 15% of artworks traded at auctions are created by women, starkly contrasted by the overwhelming 85% to 95% of works by male artists. This disparity is not only confined to auctions but is also prevalent in exhibitions, where male-created art significantly overshadows that of their female counterparts.

By concentrating our efforts on female artists, THE ART HUB aims to counteract this imbalance and champion women within the art community. This initiative is designed to amplify the visibility of women artists, making their creations more accessible to a wider audience, and ultimately striving for a more balanced representation of genders within art auctions and exhibitions. By prioritizing women in art, our platform boldly advocates for equality and diversity within the art sector, signaling a commitment to reshaping and enriching the cultural landscape.
